05. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. (Matthew 5:7)  | Documents and Pictures

The fifth beatitude teaches is to strive to do the right thing, to forgive others first, then ourselves. Our heavenly Father will forgive you our transgressions, if we forgive our fellow men theirs. (See also the <a href="https://www.htae.net/checklist/the-corporal-works-of-mercy/738/">Corporal and Spiritual works of Mercy</a>). We should let go of grudges and forgive those who have hurt or wronged us, this of course is difficult. Mercy always means choosing grace over retaliation. This beatitude is present in the Matthew chapter of the Bible only, the text says that they will be shown mercy.
