UAT replies to the question, or has a purpose of does this work for me? UAT or user acceptance testing allows your users to sign off they are happy with the delivery prior to deploying to production and the process is often one of the final processes in software development cycles before a product is taken live.
Careful planning is required for user acceptance testing as expectations often need to be managed as well as the software having to be fit for purpose.
Ultimately we are ensuring the software is tested by the real users. It is also called by other names such as beta testing and end user testing. The aim of the guidelines for testing is to ensure the software meets the user requirements and strategy that were defined ahead of the software delivery. ind our uat readiness checklist below.

Has functional, system and regression testing all completed and no issues exist which could cause screens or function to change?

Is there contingency in the UAT test plan for issues being found. i.e. This testing should be be shortened if issues found, time should be extended.

Is user acceptance testing referred to in the overall test strategy planning document, and has that document been approved?

Does the test strategy document contain main responsibilities for user acceptance testing?

Are the user acceptance test activities outlined in a plan with milestones, and has that uat plan been approved?

Is it clear from the plan how long the uat testing period is for and is this timeframe aceptable?

Does the plan invoice activities for regression testing?

Has the writer of the initial user acceptance tests been chosen, probably a test analyst?

Are there documented user acceptance tests for each function the users will access? Do these cover the critical business processes?

Are the user acceptance tests based around proving the business requirements

Have the business processes being tested been documented?

Do the user acceptance tests cover data integrity?

Are the user acceptance tests clear for someone who is not familiar with the system yet?

Has a main stakeholder or stakeholders been identified who can pick the users to engage and run the tests

Do the stakeholders understand their role?

Have the users been identified who will be asked to test and then sign-off each area or function?

Has the project team been made aware of their role during User Acceptance Testing?

Is there a user acceptance test environment available for the duration of the user acceptance test activities, and has this environment been checked to ensure all processes are able to be tested?

Is there version control in place and procedures for any new releases of software which may need to be performed?

Is the UAT testing environment live like?

Do all logins exist required to the data exist for the users, and security access has been checked for all users?

Has the environment for acceptance testing been operations tested, i.e. all applications to test are up and running?

Does the user acceptance test environment contain the data necessary for the user acceptance tests to proceed?

Is the user acceptance test environment able to be reset?

Have the training materials for users been written, probably by a Business Analyst

Have the users been trained on the system and what they will need to do to conduct the user acceptance tests?

Will the users be free of business as usual whilst they perform their tests?

Is the training part of the user acceptance testing and has that been organised and has enough depth to completed the user acceptance testing?

Have the user acceptance tests for each function been reviewed and signed off by development/test?

Has a sign off person been identified for each area or function?

Are there clearly defined user acceptance criteria?

Have the acceptance criteria been reviewed by users, developers, testers and management

Are the sign-offs aware they are signing on behalf of all users?

Do the stakeholders agree completing the tests will provide them with the necessary confidence to accept the software?

Is there time booked in the schedule for each user who will be testing, and there is no system maintenance and new releases planned?

Has the room been booked in which the users will perform the user acceptance test?

Have users signalled that the tests will enable a green light for the system go:live if achieved?

Is someone who has been involved with system test going to hand hold during user acceptance test?

Is there a positive relationship between developers, testers and the user acceptance team?

Is there a support process in place for users who have difficulties with function?

Are the results of the test stored and can be trusted to be correct?

Is there a clear process in place for the users to categorise, inform on severity and report upon issues, and for those issues to be fed back to the appropriate are for quick resolution?

Are the tests being measured in terms of progress and passes/fails.

Is the testing being tracked in terms of time spent, entries made into the system, test covered, or entries to the database?

Has someone been allocated to track the tests?

Is there a clear sign off process where each of the users will record their sign-off?

Is the Scope of the testing clearly defined?

Is there a clear process in place to prevent any scope creep from additional requirements being requested?

Will the users feel comfortable in challenging requirements where required? They should be.

Will there be a treat for users for giving up their time to perform the testing?

Is there an element of free reign after formal testing signed off for edge cases?

Are the users going to show other people in the business what they have seen?

Has a review of the testing been performed and is the result being passed to any go, no go decisions for go live?

Has the sign off had buy in from developers, testers, and management.
