The seven deadly sins of the Bible and how to avoid them. Whilst the seven deadly sins actually are not listed in the Bible, the Bible teaches us that sins do not feed the soul.

The Seven deadly sins were originally based on a list of the eight principal vices. The eight principal vices are a list of vices developed in the fourth century by the mystic Evagrius Ponticus, one of the desert fathers whose work inspired the writings of monk and ascetic John Cassian. In the sixth century, Pope Gregory the 1st changed the list of Cassian into the list of the seven deadly, or the seven cardinal sins now of the Roman Catholic church theology: i.e., pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, anger or wrath, and sloth. Gregory viewed these as capital, or principal, sins in that many other sins came from them. In summary they are thoughts that one requires to overcome to gain salvation. Listed below are the names of the deadly sins with their meanings, consider their avoidance a framework of ethical guidelines, and remember the head leads the body. There is specific ordering of the seven deadly sins but their ordering is not important as they are as important as each other. The Seven Deadly Sins
01. Lust or Extravagance. (Latin luxuria)
Greed, craving, excitement, lewdness, carnality; avoid them with purity. Reference : Matthew 5:27-28
02. Gluttony. (Latin: gula)
Excess, arrogance, debauchery, immoderation, looseness; avoid them with self restraint. Reference : Proverbs 23:1-3
03. Greed. (Latin: avaritia)
Avarice, selfishness, longing, piggishness, covertness; avoid them with generosity. Reference : Luke 12:15
04. Sloth. (Latin: acedia)
Idleness, inactivity, laxness, slothfulness, indolence, laziness; avoid them with a strong and energetic desire to get things done. Sloth is a sin as not having this energetic desire for everything that has been created for you, means you do not wish for it. Reference : Proverbs 24:30-34
05. Wrath. (Latin: ira)
Fury, hate, rage, resentment, displeasure; avoid them by being calm of mind, bearing and appearance. Reference : Romans 12:19
06. Envy. (Latin: invidia)
Resentment, rivalry, spite, grudging, ill will; avoid them with charity. Reference : Proverbs 14:30
07. Pride. (Latin: superbia)
Egotism, self-love, self-glorification, self-admiration, egoism; avoid them by taking responsibility for your actions and by adding value to others. Reference : Proverbs 11:2
