Nadi Shodhana steps

The alternative nostrils breathing technique is also used in Yoga, where it is called Nadi Shodrana, where nadi in Sanskrit means flow and shodhana means purification.
Therefore, nadi shodhana is based on clearing and purifying the channels of the mind and body at the same time bringing balance to the system as a whole. It is balancing for all the three energies in nature (called dosha and which are vata (relating to movement), pitta (relating to metabolism), and kapha (relating to structure)). According to yoga, when the doshas are present in balance, they support the health and integrity of the body.
The alternative nostril breathing technique is said to also lower the heart rate, lower the blood pressure and lower some types of stress and should brings balance to the left and right hemispheres of the brain. The technique can be used for example before a meeting, event or sleep or just because you can.
The breathing technique is best employed, on an empty stomach, when you are relaxed, to relax, focus only on your breath then, take a deep breath in lower abdomen, starting by allowing the breath to fill and expand upward (toward the navel) and outward (away from the spine), once the lower abdomen has filled completely, continue the inhalation by filling the middle in a similar manner drawing the breath upwards, from the navel to the ribs, allowing the breath to gently expand the diaphragm, the ribs, and the back as the breath continues to rise, once the middle feels full, complete the inhalation by drawing the breath into the upper chest, the sternum, and finally into the shoulders and the base of the neck , once you feel your collarbones lift slightly you are at the top of your breath. Release slowly then in reverse order until empty you should then feel relaxed and ready for proceed with the breathing technique.

01. Place thumb of right hand over right nostril, your ring finger from the right hand over the left nostril, the forefinger and middle finger resting between your eyebrows.

02. Close the right nostril with the thumb, open the left nostril and inhale through the left nostril very slowly.

03. At the top of the inhale pause briefly holding both nostrils closed.

04. Exhale through the right nostril.

05. At the bottom of the inhale pause briefly holding both nostrils closed.

06. Inhale through the right nostril.

07. At the top of the inhale pause briefly holding both nostrils closed.

08. Exhale through the left nostril.

09. At the bottom of the inhale pause briefly holding both nostrils closed.

10. Repeat and the with ten cycles you should feel the benefit.
